Welcome to the Menorca Rugby Club.
From the moment when some friends got together for the first time on an empty Menorcan beach to play a match, through to today, we have worked hard to create and maintain a rugby team on the island. Thanks to the unconditional an generous support from our sponsors, friends, ex professional players, family members and of course the players themselves, we have achieved our goal, and now enjoy a unique position within a unique sport, here on the island of Menorca.
It is our pleasure to present to you the ideals and aims of the Menorca Rugby Club from a double perspective.
Firstly: Our objective – to introduce and encourage the wonderfully exiting and noble sport of rugby, being the traditional compliment to the modern physical educational process, and imperative to the personal formation of strength and maturity so important for the many youngsters on the island.
Secondly: As associate participators of the club, we aim to promote and encourage the amateur spirit of the MRC, while at no time compromising our commitment to our sport, our club, our fans and our sponsors.
The History of the Club
Rugby started in Menorca with beach rugby, later expanding to mini beach tournaments. The first rugby team was formed in 2001 and one year later was formalized to create the club we have today.
Arriving as a new team in the Balearic League we very quickly won some commendable victories in the championships, and the next couple of years saw the club consolidate it self. Slowly but surely the Club has found a position of strength in the sporting arena of the island and on the Balearic circuit.
Our teams deserve a great deal of respect for their input which strengthens yearly with the advent of each new fitness campaign.
2007 marks the fifth season of our participation in the Balearic League and the initiation of a number of exiting future projects for the Club. This includes the formation of a junior league, female participation, and the organization of international tournaments within the “Federación Balear de Rugby”.
The organized “friendly” played between the Spanish National Squad and the French University Squad in March 2006, was a great rugby experience for Menorca. It helped a great deal to extend the knowledge of this popular sport here on our island. The match was very well attended with many new supporters of the game – all at our rugby pitch!!
Menorca Rugby Grounds
Since the foundation of the Club we have been granted the sporting facilities belonging to the Town Council of Mahon. We had fixed posts installed and pay constant attention to the care of our pitch ensuring that it is one of the best in the Balearics and fit to be “home” to many a fine trophy!
